i got this amazing dress courtesy of sugarlips apparel. it's a fashion brand that's based in downtown, los angeles. i was so excited when the package finally arrived! it features a black velvet and tan chiffon type of material for the zebra print top attached to a ruched black miniskirt. this makes a perfect "day-to-night" piece and it's so comfy. no scratchy tags or material! you can look classy on a coffee date, or fierce on the dance floor. this dress has definitely become my day/night staple dress.

funny story. i was walking into the apartment building and realized that i left my keys, so i had to wait for johan to get back home from the store. i was basically just sitting in the stairwell taking pictures for 20 minutes. oh, silly me, haha.

this bunny shirt with the peter pan collar instantly caught my eye. definitely an awesome buy!

i'm happy now that it doesn't seem too cold outside, except only at night :)

it's been insanely cold here to the point where my face starts hurting after a short walk to the bus stop. i'm one of those people who can't stand the cold, and it shows on my face. my nose gets insanely red. it's a bit annoying, but hey, what's a girl to do?

i also got this zumba work out kit with the "toning sticks". i actually really wanted to try it out at the gym, but didn't want to dance in front of everyone and show off how uncoordinated i am. i tried out the toning body work out and the flat abs one, and i can surely say that it was a lot of fun. even though i was hitting almost every piece of furniture in my small apartment, it was great.

johan and i went to stockholm a few days ago and i bought this top from topshop. at first, johan was poking fun at me because he said that it looked like "an elephant rolled that in sparkly pink cake". don't even ask. but i really like the top since it's great for a day-to-night outfit :)

i also got the necklaces because, hey, you can never have enough jewelry, right? haha

i've also bought this really great liquid eyeliner pen from yves saint laurent. it's from their shocking collection. it long-lasting, easy to maneuver along my lashes, and since it has a fine point you can fix little mistakes if you're a perfectionist about eyeliner like me. bold or thin, whatever you prefer, this works wonders and is worth the splurge!

i received this coat from my mom for christmas. it is a size too big on me, but it's fine. i'm thinking about finding something to cinch it off with.

i also got new mascara called fiberwig. it's really, extremely and positively amazing! it conditions your lashes while you're wearing it and only comes off with warm water. i've even gone to sleep with it on and woke up the next morning with out looking like a zombie the next day.

Wadköping in Örebro

johan and i went to örebro two weekends ago and they had something special going on in this old part of town called wadköping. when you start walking through this little village, it's like you've traveled back in time. they have a lot of museums and you can explore in one of the houses and see how people used to live. usually on sundays, i believe, they have people in the main square selling hand made things. everything was really pretty and i felt taller since all the ceilings were quite low. i can only imagine was johan thought, haha. along the streets, there are a lot of stores, but you kind of have to search for them like in a treasure hunt. there was this one store that had helmets, swords, jewelry, instruments, and everything that had to do with vikings. it was so awesome. my favorite was this piece of jewelry that's called a visby lens. it's so pretty when it's hanging and the light shines through:

last night on new year's eve, i went to a lovely party at a friend's place. we had a three-course meal and everything was so wonderful. it was a lot better than going out to a club and we were just surrounded by close friends. as it got closer to midnight, we went out to this big square and everyone was shooting off fireworks. it was such an amazing sight and night :)

The Philippines: Last Day

the day after the wedding, we left tagudin and went back to manila since my flight was going to be early the next morning. one town that we passed through had the prettiest christmas decorations! unfortunately, i couldn't take a decent picture of it because i was in a moving car. we also passed by a long road of people who were selling christmas lights. and since it was night time, it looked especially magical.

for the last night, we stayed at the marriott hotel in manila. i gotta say, that hotel was an amazing sight with a big christmas tree, a modern-style bar, and a big spiral staircase. sadly, i didn't take any pictures and i really wish i had. the hotel room was so hi-tech! there seriously was a button for everything. and instead of a wall, there was a window from the bedroom that let you see into the bathroom. **aawkwaaaard** at first, i thought that my aunts and i wouldn't have our privacy, but then i found a little button to put a screen down!

so, there you have it! that was my trip to the philippines last month and i enjoyed every bit of it!

in sweden, we celebrate christmas on the 24th of december. it was quite a cozy night my my dad, aunt and uncle. during dinner, i actually had some herring and surströmming. and i got a new camera lens! i was so happy and excited that i starting taking a bunch of pictures right away. unfortunately, the auto-focus function didn't work with my nikon d5000, so i had to go to the store early this morning to exchange it for a different lens.

my mom was supposed to make a dramatic entrance, so we had to walk around the house from the back to get to the front. we didn't know that there were insane bushes on the side of the house. and there we were... my mom was lifting up the bottom part of her dress to move around, i was tripping over rocks, and the wedding planer's assistant was holding the smallest flashlight to guide the way. i was the one who gave my mom away, and i had to wait in the middle of the aisle for her. when she made her grand entrance, i was about to cry. she just looked incredibly beautiful and it was so overwhelming! oh goodness...

i must say, my mom has a really great taste in wedding decorations and a wonderful eye in detail. everything had flowers or some little crystal on it. i loved her bouquet; it was the most beautiful one i'd ever seen! and the wedding rings are insane! it's just diamonds all around the matching rings. my stepdad must love bling-bling! i didn't even look like myself after the make-up artist finished putting on my make up. it was crazy. i was also avoiding the camera crew because they kept trying to take pictures/ film me. in the end, i had to do a mother/daughter photo shoot, but i couldn't compare to how beautiful my mom looked. seriously.

i saw this necklace in h&m and i had to have it! it's a bit annoying since it's not a clasp in the back and just this big clip type of thing, therefore making it impossible to hug anyone with it coming undone. it's still usable though, so no worries :)

i wore this when johan and i went out to dinner/clubbing with our friends on saturday. aside from the insane headache i got an hour into arriving at the club, i really enjoyed being with everyone.

The Philippines Day 4: Medical Mission

the fourth day of my visit to the philippines was spent helping out in the medical mission my family does. most of the people in the town we were in couldn't even afford proper shoes, let alone medicine. my family brought over tons of medicine which were to be given to the people for free. we also gave them check ups and pills, such as vitamins and ibuprofen, which most of them hadn't ever used before. we also provided them with reading glasses, if they needed it. i'm not so sure how many patients my uncle saw, but i think it was around 60 people in one day. that's a lot. although i'm not a nurse, i acted as the "pharmacist" and put the pills in baggies so that they could be distributed. i really hope that i can go the next time my family is having this medical mission because it's a great feeling helping out people who need it.

The Philippines Day 3: Cervantes

on the third day that i was in the philippines, my aunts, uncle, and i went to cervantes, which is where my mother's side of the family used to live. it was a 2 hour drive away from tagudin through lush mountains and small mountain villages. everywhere you looked, there was just green and it was such a beautiful sight that these pictures cannot do it justice. the road was incredibly curvy and there were rocks that had fallen in some places, which made it a bit difficult to maneuver around. we passed by foot bridges, little vegetables stores, and trickles of water that lead down the the river below. it was amazing seeing how the people who lived in those mountains grew vegetables. they actually grew them on the side of the mountain despite the steepness! although we made this trip in day-time, when we had left cervantes the next day, it was night-time. there were no lights on the road to guide you and only little road blockers protecting you from falling off the edge, so it was pretty scary. we all stayed at my aunt's classmate's house and it was so nice, except for the turkeys and roosters outside of the window of the room my aunts and i were staying in! i have never been woken up by roosters before, but i can tell you that i have never gotten so little sleep in my life. they started crowing at 2am and didn't stop to let me fall asleep. even the turkeys and cats decide to chime in! my aunts and i weren't very happy, and after a while, we gave up and got up to have some coffee. we had a very big day ahead of us, but more on that later!

on a sad note, my regular eyeliner pen (from stila) dried out and i was very distressed. i went with johan to stockholm over the weekend and stopped by to get a new one from MAC. if you like liquid eyeliners that stay put when water hits it, i suggest that you don't get this one. literally in one sprinkle, i looked like a girl who was crying in her room all day. messy, messy.

the second day in the philippines was a very busy one! it started off with this amazing continental breakfast at the hotel. they even had sushi for the breakfast buffet! afterwards, we packed up everything and left for the provence, or to be precise, we headed for tagudin. around 7 hours later, we finally arrived there. it's like the same distance from los angeles to san diego, but it takes 3x the time. it was such a nice drive and i was just enjoying the views of the rice paddies and everything. but anyways, i'll post more later! hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! :)

i got a coupon from kicks and it was for a discount on lipstick, so i thought why not?! i really loved the limited edition lancome 29 saint honoré lipstick in 102. it's bright red and perfect. it looks like it came straight from the 1930s or something.

when it comes to the holidays, like christmas for example, i love wearing red lipstick. call me old-fashioned, but nothing looks better to me during a christmas party than a woman with thick, cat-eye eyeliner and plump fire-engine red lips.

there were musicians on the second floor playing christmas songs

after a 2-hour flight to amsterdam and a 12-hour flight to manila, i finally arrived in the philippines! we were staying at the manila peninsula hotel and it was like the bellagio of the philippines, except for the casino haha. there were already decorations for christmas in the hotel. my stepdad said that it was because they start getting ready for christmas around september or something. they had lights everywhere, and even a gingerbread house! it had a little fireplace inside too; it was incredibly cute. after taking a much needed shower, we met the rest of my family who came to the philippines. my mom and stepdad wanted to take me out shopping for a bit and we stopped for a bite to eat at this insanely decorated sushi restaurant. there were pink and blue lights everywhere, random geisha/samurai pictures on the back of the chairs, and even blue lemonade! my mind was blown and the sushi was pretty good too. i was so overwhelmed by the heat and humidity outside. it was a complete contrast to that of sweden. but it's okay, i survived!

Johan's 20th Birthday

hello, everyone! i'm still blogging from the philippines, but i'll be leaving tomorrow morning. it was such a nice vacation with my mother's wedding, medical mission, and just relaxing! oh, and i got 5 mosquitos bites just from last night, haha.

but anyways, the 15th of november was johan's birthday and we went to his parents' new apartment. a person's 20th birthday is significant and special in sweden because it's the legal age when you're allowed to buy alcohol from the systembolaget (the only store that sells alcohol). so yeah, that's the first thing he did when he got off the bus, haha. his sister and her daughter also joined us and they brought their dogs! i think the little one is so precious!

so as you may know, i've been in the philippines since sunday. this is the only time that i've used the internet for more than 15 minutes this entire trip. i'll post a lot of pictures and tell you guys about everything-- don't worry.

but for now, these are just a few pictures that i have been meaning to post for a while. i think it's mostly because i miss johan. anyways, johan and i went to stockholm for a day and i had planned to take a bunch of pictures. unfortunately, those plans never went through and the only pictures i took were on the train.

in a previous post, i mentioned that johan and i had our first anniversary together! we had agreed not to get each other presents, but he wanted to take me out that night. he wanted to keep it a surprise, so he didn't tell me where we were going until i guessed it when we were in town. we had reservations at tzatziki, a little greek restaurant in uppsala, and it was the first time that i had ever eaten there. being inside the restaurant was so cozy with its painted walls, archways, and low ceilings. it's decorations made it feel like you were dining in greece. i had this rosemary covered meat which was grilled on a spit, pasta, and pita bread with tomato sauce. it was so amazingly delicious, and i wish that i took pictures of my meal. and the desert! i had vanilla ice cream with raspberry sauce. mmmm, my mouth is watering. it was so romantic and we stayed until the restaurant closed. then, we walked home with our bellies full and our arms around each other.

well, i hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! i'm going to be traveling tomorrow! yay! i'm not so sure whether i want to go comfy or stylish on the plane... hmmm... what do you think? :)

i woke up at 8 in the morning, thinking that I wouldn't have to wait very long at h&m to be able to touch a piece of clothing from the collection, but boy was i wrong. i got to the store at 9.45 and there was already a mob outside. i received a yellow wrist band, and i found out later that it meant that i wasn't going to be able to shop until it was 10.50 am. i was very impatient.

they had sectioned off a corner of the bottom floor, which was dedicated only to the versace for h&m collection. i really wish that i had taken pictures because it was INSANE. really. each group had a different color of wristband and only had 10 minutes to shop. i bet you're thinking, "10 minutes?! are you serious?! how?!" and all i can say is that when you've been waiting for this day to come to own something with the name versace on it (that isn't your mom's), you don't need more that 5 minutes. you go in, grab it, pay for it, and then you're gone. i don't know whether to call the first group lucky or crazy. they ran. and i'm serious about this, they RAN. and pushed. and shoved. and grabbed everything in sight. it was chaotic and i was happy that i wasn't in that group. but then again, if i was an earlier group, i would have been able to get a handbag and a dress.

when it was my turn, i was shoved of course. being petite isn't very good in these situations. i wanted to go for the jewelry first, but i was unlucky. i had spotted these legging with this sparkly versace design on the side and grabbed the first size 34 i saw. then, i went for this beautiful orange dress that had chiffon in the back that acted like a cape. it was magnificent. unfortunately, someone took it before i could reach it. there i was, standing like an idiot because everything from the collection was out of my size within the first few minutes. there wasn't any jewelry left, so i decided to go to the fitting room and that's when my luck changed. a girl came out of the fitting room and didn't want the bracelet she had taken, and i asked if i could have it instead. i checked it out when i was in the fitting room and fell in love! it's like a leather and metal corsage from prom!

this was an extremely exhilarating experience and i can still feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins. it was so wonderful seeing everything from the collection in real life and being able to purchase a couple of pieces from it.

one thing that i have been obsessing with is the fragrance, prada candy. there are only a few perfumes that i can say that i fell in love with at "first smell", and this is one of them. it has a musky scent of caramel and it's hard not to go head over heels for it. every time i'm in a store that sells perfumes, i have to spray it on myself. it's addictive. really.

when i was in stockholm sometime around last week, i visited the newest monki store in the gallerian across from åhléns city. it's probably the biggest monki store i've ever been to and certainly the most decorated. i wish that i took a picture. it had silver streamers hanging from the ceiling and it just looked magical.

also, i'm in love with these footless tights that i got from h&m. i just think that they look so cool :)

the summers and winters after i turned twelve years old were spent visiting my family in sweden. and sometimes, i would accompanied by my friends. one of my most favorite places to be in the apartment i would stay in was the windowsill in the bedroom. during the warm summer nights, you could open window and be greeted with a warm summer night breeze. if you looked up, you could almost see every star in the sky. in winter time, i gathered the snow that was outside the window and would make a little snow man. hmm, memories...

Dada Life @ Saluhallen

hello, lovelies! my entire body is aching from going to saluhallen friday night. i have a bruise on my knee and my shoulders are killing me, but it was so worth it. saluhallen is a market/ restaurant during the day, and a nightclub at night. on friday, this two-man group called dada life was playing and DJ-ing the music. and everyone was going nuts! one of the guys from dada life crowd surfed! haha :)
these guys must have a thing for champagne and bananas because the girls in the video playing behind them had bananas, dada life was throwing and eating them, and they had a blow up champagne bottle and banana that they kept tossing into the crowd. there were a couple of bananas that were smushed on the floor. you know in cartoons when the character slips on a banana peel? yeah, i almost did that. it can really happen!
and forgive me for the quality on these next few pictures. they were taken with my phone and all these crazy lights were flashing.

on spotify, these guys have gotten pretty famous and i could see why. they don't have too many songs, but their remixes of other songs are amazing. in the video below, dada life is playing their rendition of "save the world" originally by swedish house mafia.

The new apartment

So here are a few pictures of the new apartment that I was helping my dad move into a couple weeks ago. The previous owners had cracked a lot of boards in the floor, so we had to fix them. They had also installed a bidet in the bathroom! And that was pretty interesting to see.

I love how open and spacious this apartment is. I think that it's perfect for my dad, since he does have a lot of things. There's this awesome tower next to the apartment that provides a second entrance too! And there's also a couple of stained glass windows in hidden places; I found one in the pantry :)

a package arrived for me recently from nelly.com and it contained this new lipstick that i ordered! the lipstick color was a beautiful and chic plum color from wet n' wild. it's a really wonderful color for fall. this lipstick was actually extremely annoying to put on because it wasn't very slick, but that was okay. i had to use this 'fire engine red' lipstick that i already had from max factor to make it smooth and wearable. so, instead of this original plum color, it actually turned out to be a wine red which you can see in the pictures above. i also used the edge of the lipstick as a lipliner, so it' kind of a bit darker on the outside of my lips than on the inside.

happy halloween, everyone! i'm already excited because i realized that i didn't have school this week! yay! i've already gotten a kick start on eating candy too. mmm, candy for breakfast-- the advantages of not living with your parents. johan got two bags of candy from the store; one bag is for licorice flavored candy, which i absolutely abhor, and the other is the normal kind for us to share. so, i'm definitely going to be running on a "sugar high" today, haha. but i do wish that i had candy corn. i swear, that's my favorite candy during halloween.

every year in the US, people put up tons of decorations for a lot holidays. i remember when i was a lot younger and it was st. patrick's day and my dad put up a flag with a four-leaved clover on it. we're not even irish. i think that the "most decorated" holidays back home are christmas and halloween. when you go trick-or-treating or even to a halloween party, you see so many houses decorated from top to bottom. walking up to each and every house was like its own adventure. and when you get to the end of the street, you debate with your friends which house was the best. at a party, the inside of the house is a halloween mess. there's a parade of peers dressed up in costumes ranging from a playboy bunny to a trash can. even the food can be halloween themed! (some people are really talented when making halloween cakes and cupcakes) i really miss that about the US. anyways, here's a video of an awesome halloween decorated house. enjoy:

It was raining like crazy yesterday, and finally the sun came out! The leaves are all picturesque with their yellows, oranges, and reds. It looks so pretty outside without a cloud in sight. It seems like it would be warm outside, but it's actually a bit cold! What do you guys love about fall?

on another note, johan and i finished god of war 3 last night. when it first came out, my friend kevin and i went to game stop because he really wanted to get the game. it was so insane because we went through this entire adventure to go get it. i can't exactly remember what happened, but it involved lots of driving. and after he finished it (which only took him like 8 hours), he gave the game to me as a birthday present.

Johan and I were experimenting with my camera a few months ago. In my high school digital photo class, we had a project where we did "light art". Johan and I tried to make a marvelous picture with the light of his phone. Of course, we could have done a lot better, but it was quite fun waving our arms around slow enough so the light would be captured and then seeing the picture which revealed our "art". I actually spelt my name backwards and in the amount of time I had on the first try!

So, I'm so extremely tired from moving all of this furniture during the weekend. I went to Örebro again over the weekend and visited my friend, Sophie, and took some photos around town. This was taken at the train station in Örebro. To be honest, I got a bit camera shy since there were a lot of people passing by and staring. As soon as there were less people outside of the station, we snapped as many pictures as we could in 2-3 minutes. These pictures were the only ones that I liked that weren't too dark or out of focus, haha :P

i love this jacket! it's a bit big, but it's perfect when it's really windy or rainy. the pretty rose pattern on the inside is such a lovely addition to it. and the shoes! my dad gave me these timberland loafers because they're really comfy. and i must admit, these are the most comfortable shoes i have ever worn! it's like a tempurpedic mattress... in a shoe!

it's been incredibly windy for the past couple of days and getting even colder. one of my friends said that it should start snowing early next month! ahh! but on a brighter note, just got these awesome scented candles from ikea. they smell like chocolate cake, carrot cake, and cinnamon rolls. mmm :)

Last week, Johan and I went to town to meet Axel and go shopping for a bit. In Sweden, there's only one place where you can get alcohol over 3.5% and it's called Systembolaget. Unfortunately, we didn't know when it closed on Fridays, so when we finally went to the Systembolaget... of course it was already closed. Then, we decided to go to a mall where Systembolaget should be open for longer. We went on this big journey, changing from bus to bus, and when we finally got to the mall the store was closed. Tough luck, right? Ahh, what a day.

It's funny how much people will go out of their way to get something, especially for pre-partying.

Hair products and my morning surprise!

Good afternoon, lovelies (or night/morning, depending on where you are)! I found this lovely note next to me when I woke up this morning. This put me in such a good mood and it was such a surprise! But anyways, it's raining so much here and it hasn't even stopped yet. It's really cold inside the apartment too, so I'm actually using the comforter as a blanket on the couch. It's a perfect cuddling day!

The other day, I went to Lush to buy something to pamper myself with because I had a really bad day. I purchased H'Suan Wen Hua, which is a hair treatment that makes your hair softer. When I was looking at it in the store, its smell was overwhelming, but don't let that turn you away! I applied it to my hair while it was dry and left it on for 40 minutes, then shampooed and conditioned it like normal. After using all these terrible products that have left my hair feeling like straw, this was a mega treat. If you're concerned about the size of the pot, I can tell you that I have long hair and I only used 1/3 of the pot and I'm saving the rest for later. Overall, I think this was a good purchase and it even left my hair smelling like Christmas-time! :)

About a month ago, I purchased the American Cream conditioner from Lush. It really confused me at first because you can't feel it in your hair while you're showering. I guess that's because it's not like normal conditioners. I bought the medium-sized one and, to my surprise, it has lasted me quite a while. I really love the smell of it and the scent lingers in your hair for quite some time. I don't even have to wear perfume because my hair already smells lovely!

To conclude this, I hope that everyone takes some time to pamper themselves once in a while because being under stress, like I am, does no good for your body. So, take some time to kick back and relax in a bath or some nice smelling hair products. Stay healthy, everyone!

A Night In

The other night, Johan and I went to his sister's place for a night-in. His sister's friend made the absolute best chili/con carne/whatever it was that I have ever had in my life! We enjoyed dinner, drank some wine (mostly, fanta and rosé), and played Wii Sports for hours. I never liked bowling until I played it on Wii Sports and I was actually pretty okay at it! But then again, it is virtual bowling, haha. My arm is still sore from swinging my arm around with the Wiimote.

Honestly, I think classy nights "in" are wonderfully cozy, especially with some nice jazz music in the background.

I got this denim vest from Beyond Retro last weekend. It had these metal designs on its collar that were about to fall off and it was way to long for me, so I decided to fix it up a bit. It was pretty annoying making the fray at the bottom of the vest. I actually had to use a pair of small scissors and pick and tear off the individual strings holding the bottom together. I also generously used sandpaper on every part of the vest to make it look worn. This piece did not look like this before I got to it! But since I actually fixed it myself, I got to be creative and make some details that I would look for in a denim vest. I had a lot of fun and I hope it looks alright!

So these are just some random things that I've found on the internet that have caught my interest. Since Johan isn't a fan of fish, I've barely eaten any since I moved to Uppsala. Lately, I've had a sudden binge of sushi. I've also been thinking about getting another tattoo, but I'm not completely sure about that yet. I'm just collecting some ideas at the moment. I also have an obsession with navajo prints. I think they look so wonderful, especially for fall. It's something about that American Southwestern feel to it, I think. I've been searching for name brand purses a lot too. It's never a bad time to have one of those purses hanging on your arm, and plus, they are extremely classy.

Just a few minutes ago I came across a picture that sparked my memory. I know that I'm 12 years late for this, but I just recently watched The Green Mile. All I can say is that every one who isn't squeamish should watch this movie. I love a film that can manipulate and bring out every single one of your emotions. I was switching from sitting on the edge of my seat to laughing out loud to crying like a baby. The one character that made me do an "Awhhh!" was this little mouse named Mr. Jingles. Yeah, he's a cute little spool-spinning mouse.

Here's the result of me being bored. The book is one of the things I have to read this semester, and it's pretty nice so far. It's a book of different stories around the basis of being a good person. To be honest, I'd rather be reading Pride and Prejudice, but oh well... Oh, Mr. Darcy!

I went to Lush the other day for the second time. The first time consisted of me just smelling soaps. Well, I got this conditioner that's called American Cream. I cannot fathom the words to explain how wonderful it smells. Seriously, it smells amazing. Really. I also got this luxury bath melt that's called... Marshmallow... Goodness?... Actually, I can't remember for the life of me. It has these moisturizing ingredients in it and it feels so incredibly good when you're taking a bath. It also smells awesome, like a marshmallow or something. If I try any more products from Lush, I'll definitely update and post pictures.

I went to H&M the other day because I got an awesome coupon in the mail. The first item I got was a pair of fake leather shorts. Unfortunately, they're one size too big and it looks pretty funny when I use a belt. But I really like them a lot! I once read in a Cosmo magazine in a Jessica Alba interview that a little bit of leather is the best aphrodisiac, haha. The second item I got was a sweater. I'm pretty much a hibernating animal during fall/winter, so I really like snuggly knitted sweaters. This one also fits to my shape and I don't feel like a big fat brick. But anyways, I think these items were an amazing buy and I'll probably be using them a lot!
